We know you likely have questions regarding your child’s experience at Greendale, so we’ve compiled a list of our most frequently asked questions with their answers below. What is the dress code at Greendale?

Proper student dress and appearance are important for creating an educational atmosphere geared for school success and preparing students for post-secondary opportunities. Specifically:

• Shirts must cover all areas (chest, back, and stomach) avoiding attention to be drawn to the lack of coverage.  Undergarments should not be visible.  Spaghetti straps are not permitted with the exception of the semi-formal dances. 

• All see through materials must have an item beneath it that provides coverage.

• Waistband must be worn at the waist.

• If pants have holes above the knee, they should be covered if above the expected shorts length.

• Leggings (not tights) will be considered the same as pants. 

• Shorts and skirts must be worn at a length that doesn’t cause attention.  Students should be aware of the length when they sit down as well. 

• Nighttime attire is not permitted.

• Appropriate and securely fitting footwear is required.

• Heavy coats and jackets must be stored in the locker.

• Clothing which is torn, ripped, or altered in a manner to be revealing or safety issue should not be worn.

• Body piercings with the potential to harm self or others are prohibited.

• Hairstyles and tattoos should not cause a school disruption or distraction.

• The following items are not permitted: items with objectionable language, items referring to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gangs, sex, illegal activity, death or offensive to school purposes, shoes with wheels, spikes, dog collars, chains, sunglasses, hats, bandanas, and face painting (unless permitted by administration for spirit days).

What if my child becomes ill or needs medication while at school?

If a student becomes ill, we will attempt to notify a parent or guardian promptly, and we will care for the student in our nurse’s station until a parent or guardian arrives. Students may not leave school grounds without a parent or another approved adult (as listed on the student’s information form). If the situation is a medical emergency, we will follow standard emergency procedures. Any student requiring medication during school hours must turn that medication over to our nurse and provide a written and dated consent form that details student and medication name, dosage, and times for treatment and any other necessary directions. All prescription medications must be in their original container with an attached pharmacy label. Students may only self-administer life-saving medications, such as asthma inhalers and EpiPens with a medical care plan on file.

What is your cell phone policy?

Students may not use any electronic and other personal device brought from home, including cell phones, during school hours, except with express teacher permission. We recommend not bringing such devices to school, as they have a tendency to get lost, stolen, or damaged (and we will not be liable for them). If you need to contact your child during school hours, please call our front office.

Can I visit the school?

Absolutely, you are welcome to visit our school, contact your child’s teacher, and volunteer as much as you would like. However, we do ask that for the safety of all our students, you check in at the office before proceeding throughout the building or grounds. Lunch time is a great opportunity to visit your child. Does my child really get to bring home the school-supplied Chromebook?

Yes. Our district’s 1-1 program issues Chromebooks to each of our students for anytime, anywhere learning. We loan students the Chromebooks, much like textbooks, with the understanding that students will use and care for them appropriately and replace them if they damage or lose them. Our students are welcome to take their issued Chromebook home each evening as long as they remember to bring them back to school (fully charged) and ready for another day of learning.
